Laypersons serve St. David’s as Lectors and Lay Eucharistic Ministers according to need. They assist at almost all public services by reading the lessons (lectors), leading the Prayers of the People (intercessors), and administering the chalice (Eucharistic ministers). Any confirmed adult communicant in good standing is eligible to become part of this ministry. Contact Bruce Thomas (email to email@example.com, or call 770-993-8445) for information.
Training is provided. A first step is to study the detailed brochure that describes each of the three types of ministry. Click on the icon below to access the 43-page “Customary for Intercessors, Lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers.” It is a PDF file with a size of approximately 200 KBytes.
Lectionary Readings: You can find the formatted pages, which will be set on the lectern each Sunday by the vergers, as resources within the MSP scheduling system. (You may have to log in in order to access them.) They will no longer be inserted into this webpage!
The texts are from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible, but in most cases they have been formatted to aid the lectors in preparing for their assignments. The blocking of sentence pieces should help to apply suitable word inflection and emphasis, and to plan for breath control while reading.
